When a Difficult Situation Changes Everything
At Perfected Canine Obedience, we understand that behavioral challenges can affect more than a dog’s training. They can impact a family’s daily routine, housing situation, and peace of mind.
Athena came to us after being cited as an aggressive dog at her apartment complex following an incident in which another dog approached her and she attempted to defend herself. Her owner was facing a difficult situation, and Athena needed an opportunity to learn, progress, and demonstrate her abilities in a structured environment.
Our goal was to help Athena develop stronger obedience skills, improve her leash manners, and build confidence through training and supervised interactions.
Athena’s 3-Week Board & Train Program
During her three-week Board & Train program, Athena worked on essential obedience commands and practical skills designed to support everyday life.
Her training included:
- Sit and down: Building reliable foundational obedience.
- Stay: Practicing patience and maintaining position.
- Come: Developing recall skills.
- Place: Learning to settle on a designated spot.
- Leave it: Practicing disengagement from distractions.
- Basic leash walking: Working toward calmer, more manageable walks.
- Introduction to off-leash walking: Developing additional control and responsiveness in appropriate training settings.
Athena also demonstrated that she could do well around multiple dogs during supervised interactions in our setting. Every dog and environment is different, so we believe in evaluating behavior carefully rather than making assumptions based on a single incident.
Training Is About More Than Commands
At Perfected Canine Obedience, we believe successful dog training involves helping owners and their dogs navigate real-world challenges.
Athena’s situation extended beyond her initial training program. Her owner continued dealing with the housing difficulties surrounding the apartment complex’s decision not to allow her back.
Rather than simply ending our involvement after the three-week program, we continued providing daycare and boarding support for Athena. We also worked with her owner to extend her stay while he managed his football commitments and worked through this challenging period.
Our intention was to help ease the pressure on both Athena and her owner while they navigated an uncertain situation.
This is what personalized dog training and ongoing support mean to us. Every dog has a story, and every owner deserves to be treated with understanding and respect.
